JUNKBOX GUITARS HAS FINISHED IT’S OPERATION IN MAY 2018 !!!

Previously located in Medicine Hat, Alberta,Canada

As of May 2018 I have returned to retire and live in Australia, sadly ending this wonderful, creative part of my life.

I am leaving my website “up” for the remainder of 2019 purely as a resource for any other cigar box guitar lovers and makers, to share any content or ideas that might be of interest.

It has been a wonderful passion, building these fantastic little instruments and the diversity and challenges of making different materials ‘work’ has been lots of fun.

These are my last shows in Canada! I am returning to Australia where I will retire.

Thank you all for your wonderful support and interest.

So I went ahead and made me a guitar. I got me a cigar box, I cut me a round hole in the middle of it, take me a little piece of plank, nailed it onto that cigar box, and I got me some screen wire and I made me a bridge back there and raised it up high enough that it would sound inside that little box, and got me a tune out of it. I kept my tune and I played from then on.

Junkbox Guitars are traditional-style fully functional cigar box guitars which you are going to love! If you have a yearning to play a screaming, wailing slide guitar, play a classic ZZTop ‘La Grange’ lick or a slow melancholy blues sittin’ on your porch with your dog and a beer, this is what you need! All guitars are electric, and I make 3 string, fretted and fretless, 4 and 6 string fretted cbg’s, and more. Guitar bodies are cigar boxes… or anything else that appeals to me! I have made great sounding guitars from metal cookie tins, army canteens, steel toolboxes, cutlery and jewelry boxes and home-made boxes, following a tradition of ‘making do’ with what can be found. Necks are generally oak, sometimes maple or poplar: likewise….. Read more HERE..

Hi my names Doug C.  I’m from Medicine Hat, Alberta. My girlfriend Michaela bought me a Junk box guitar for Christmas last year. I love this guitar. It looks and sounds great. Very happy with the quality. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks.
